Tolman was praised for her performance as the role of Minnesota Police officer Molly Solverson. Vanity Fair declared that Tolman has "calmly certainly stole the entire the show". For her role, she won the Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Movie/Miniseries as well as Best Actress nominations at the Emmy Awards and for the Golden Globes. Tolman's role as a guest on The Mindy Project as romance novelist Abby Berman for two episodes that premiered on the same day. In 2015, she was an supporting role on Michael Dougherty s comedy horror movie Krampus. Tolman declined roles in supporting characters including best friends wives, and mothers following her first big role on Fargo. She was looking for an unusual role.
